Fair Rosamund, 1917
Christie's Images

In his book J.W. Waterhouse, Anthony Hobson tells us that Fair Rosamund was the mistress of  King Henry II. She lived in a secret house surrounded by a maze. She had a special window where she would watch and wait for the king. Unfortunately, the queen found Fair Rosamund and as Higden put it in 1350, 'so dealt with her that she lived not long after.'
